CHAPTER TEN

Bryson hadn't woken up with someone in his arms in so long he forgot how it felt. A year and a half, probably closer to two years since Alan had slept beside him and longer still since either of them wanted to cuddle.

The twin sized bed he shared with Lake made separation impossible, but Bryson had a feeling Lake would still sleep on top of him.

Bryson ran his hand down Lake's back until he came to the swell of his ass before working his way back up again. Lake's hand twitched where it rested on Bryson's chest. Those dark fingers were in perfect contrast to Bryson’s paler skin.

Lake was a little snuggler who craved affection. The simple touches didn't add up to that much on their own but could carry the world when meshed together. They certainly carried Bryson to places he didn't even know he longed for and didn't know he needed until Lake had walked into Renfield's bar.

By the gods, had it only been a couple of days?

Everything about Bryson had changed in such a short time. His mind was the only thing that protested. Every other part of him went along for the roller coaster ride as if it loved the danger of it. His brain had been the only sensible one, telling him to slow down. And he should, at least until he knew his heart wouldn't break all over Fountain Village.

Lake wiggled around on top of him. His leg brushed against Bryson's balls. Bryson stilled him with a hand on his thigh.

Lake sighed, his breath fanning out against Bryson's neck and chin.

His little bat shifter was waking up, but the process proved to be slow going.

Bryson smiled.

Something about Lake made Bryson throw caution off a damn cliff. Hell, he felt like he even watched it as it crashed with a silly grin on his face and the sparkle of new love in his eyes. Just, weeeee and down his sanity went with it. And, by the gods, he couldn't bring himself to feel bad about it all.

Bryson ran his hand up Lake's thigh, to the curve of his hip. The muscles bunched, swelling before dipping to Lake's waist. The slide down helped emphasize the roundness of Lake's ass. He moved his other hand down Lake's back again.

"Beautiful little shifter, aren't you?"

Lake wiggled around again. He snaked his hand passed Bryson’s neck into his hair at the same time he tilted his face so that his lips brushing across the underside of Bryson's chin.

Bryson smiled.

Lake mumbled something that Bryson couldn't understand. Every word was a soft tickle against his skin.

"Good morning." Bryson's voice came out husky.

"Morning." Lake kissed the spot his lips could reach. "How long have you been awake?"

"A while." The better part of an hour.

"Did I wake you?"

Yes. But not for the reason Lake probably meant. He hadn’t felt so much contentment in his life. The foreignness of it was what woke him.

Had he ever felt that with Alan?

His relationship with Alan went from the honeymoon period to friendship in that first year.
